Seminar: ‘A cinematographic culture in Uruguay’
September 1st. and 2nd. – Salto - Uruguay
Final report
1) The former Uruguayan Film Societies Federation will be reactivated . The new institution will be formed as a ‘de facto’ society that will become into a legally established one with a non-profitable purpose. One of the first tasks will be that of helping to give legal status to those film societies which would not have it at the moment of the association.
2) Each film society will keep its autonomy to carry out their own activities.
3) There will be one spokesman for each of the members in order to let all film societies to be in touch one with the other. For that purpose the former statues will be taken as a basis to establish the new ones. The former statues are in the files of the National Institute of Visual Arts.
4) The new federation will decide the association or not to CineSud and IFFS and will discuss the association of the different ‘mobile cinemas’ in the country..
5) The next meeting will be held in the district of Canelones.
6) The material from Cinesud is available for non-profitable and free exhibitions and it can be obtained by contacting Mr. Fernando Henriquez (Nueva Helvecia Fim Society)
7) Cinemateca Uruguaya presented a project for alternative distribution.
8) It was also discussed the possibility of creating video-clubs within the same institutions by working in cooperation with Videograma; Cinemateca and Buen Cine
9) The Bureau of Cultural Affairs from the Ministry of education and Culture as well as the National Institute of Visual Arts stated their interesting supporting the above mentioned initiatives. Mr. Martin Papich will ask for an audience in the next Meeting of the Country Majors and to the National University in order to generate supports from those areas.
10) Juan Jose Mugni, director of the National Institute of the Image offered the possibility of getting different materials in DVD for the different film societies in the provinces. The y also have a totally equipped mobile cinema tha can be taken anywhere in the country.
11) The possibility of editing a web publication about the movement with the posibilities of having a paper edition in the future with a nationwide distribution and with the objective of announcing the activities of each of the country districts.
12) A Project of including film production as an extracurricular activity in all the country secondary schools will be presented to the Educational and Art Committee of the Ministry of Culture. Mr Fernando Alonso (Salto Cultural Department)will be in charge together with a group of students of CERP( national institute of teaching)
13) The Group of ‘ Mobile Cinemas’ is entirely at the disposition of the different film societies to support different exhibitions.
14) The National Institute of Visual Arts mentioned the possibility of generating the Day of Uruguayan Cinema to be held next November 19th in all the film societies and in Cinemateca Uruguaya.
